Pakistan telecom industry might have seen rapid growth since its inception but there is definitely one despair that haunts every Pakistani and that is “Mobile Snatching”. Cellular communication has been in Pakistan for quite some time and so is mobile snatching. Hopes seem to have diminished over this particular issue. But the important piece which completes this whole puzzle is “We”. What can we do to fight this nuisance?
Well even if we keep the current law and order situation of the country constant there are still quite a few things that can be done. First of all
If you don’t like it then don’t fund it:
Yes that’s right.Somewhere in this whole snatching scenario we are the one funding this crime by buying stolen handsets and using parts that are from some stolen mobile phones. Repair person usually uses parts of stolen mobile phones to satisfy the consumer needs. And the consumer on the other hand thinks of it as a cheap solution to his problem. What we can do here is to stop buying stolen handsets and support authorized repair centers. It might be a bit costly but it is the right way to go about it.
Blocking the IMEI:
This is probably nothing new but a lot of us still don’t do it. Blocking IMEI is important as a blocked mobile phone requires a certain sort of repairing which obviously takes time and money. Although this won’t bring your mobile back but it will decrease the cost of stolen mobile phone. Here is the link on how to block mobile IMEI.
Protecting your SD card:
Your mobile memory card is a valuable thing these days. With lots of data moving around via apps, memory card ends up having lots of pictures and other valuables so its important to protect your private data. Because memory cards can be used separately even if you have blocked your mobile phone. So its advisable to remove your critical data from memory card and create regular backups on your PC. There are also options of using apps to protect your SD card through password protection or encryption. For encryption of android mobiles checkout this link.
There is also something in it for our entrepreneur community as well to work alongside operators and try to work out a solution to this long standing problem.
